چکیده مقاله:
Objective Royal jelly (RJ) is a complementary diet widely used by traditional healers for the treatment of infertility. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of RJ on some reproductive parameters in immature female rats. MaterialsAndMethods In this experimental study, thirty two immature female rats (30-35gr) were divided into four groups (n=8 /group). Control group received 0.5 ml distilled water interaperitonealy (i.p) and experimental groups received 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg/body weight doses of RJ daily for 14 days. Animals were sacrificed and ovaries were dissected for histologic examination. The serum levels of ovarian hormones, nitric oxide (NO) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) were evaluated. The ratio of the ovarian and uterine weight to body weight was calculated. One-way ANOVA was used for data analysis. Results Results: The body weight showed a significant difference (P=0.002) between groups and was increased in all RJ treated animals. Uterine and ovarian weight and the serum levels of progesterone (P=0.013) and estradiol (P=0.004) were increased in experimental groups significantly. In addition, a significant increase in the number of mature follicles and corpora lutea (P=0.007) were seen. A significant increase in the serum levels of FRAP (P=0.009) and a significant decrease in NO level (P=0.013) were observed. Conclusion Royal jelly promotes folliculogensis and increases ovarian hormones. It can be considered a natural growth stimulator for immature female rats.

متن کاملGossypol Promotes Degeneration of Ovarian Follicles in Rats
The present study aimed to determine if gossypol interferes with ovarian follicles in rats. Twenty-four female Wistar rats were assigned to two equal groups: one control group and the other dosed with gossypol (25 mg/kg/day, subcutaneously) for 15 days. Ovarian follicles were histologically classified according to the stage of development and as normal or atretic. Gossypol treatment reduced the...
متن کاملSteroid Hormones and Ovarian Cancer
Globally, ovarian cancer is the 6th most common malignancy in developed countries, responsible for 100,300 new cases and 64,500 deaths annually (Jemal et al., 2011). Approximately 90% of ovarian cancers arise within the ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) or the fallopian tube surface epithelium; the remainder of ovarian malignancies develops from other ovarian tissues (sex cord-stromal, germ cell...
متن کاملSteroid hormone formation in bovine ovarian follicles.
In an attempt to assess histophysiological implication of the follicular compartment of the bovine ovary in steroid hormone formation and the effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in vitro on follicular steroidogenesis, minces of follicular tissues from non-gravid bovine ovaries were incubated with radioactive testosterone or acetate in the presence and absence of hCG. Significant amount...

A family of C29 4,4-dimethylsterol intermediates in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway from lanosterol has been found to induce oocytes to resume meiosis.[248] One of these sterols, 4,4-dimethyl-5α-cholest-8,14,24-triene-3β-ol, was extracted from human follicular fluid and named follicular fluid meiosis–activating substance (FF-MAS). A related compound, 4,4-dimethyl-5α-cholest-8,24-diene-3β-o...
